The Power Of Forgiveness With Carmen Tarleton

The Power Of Forgiveness With Carmen Tarleton

SNIPPET #74

One moment Carmen was asleep at home. The next she was in a living nightmare.

On June 10, 2007, Carmen’s estranged husband broke into her home while Carmen and their two young daughters slept. What he did next demonstrates the most severe form of human depravity and sheer evil.

In one of the most horrific acts of betrayal and horror, Carmen was sexually assaulted and then beaten with a baseball bat. She was hurtled face first into furniture and then, as she lay in agony and terror, and her two daughters screamed, her estranged husband poured copious amounts of chemical lye all over the woman he’d once professed to love.

It’s a shocking and even nauseating story of the worst in humanity. But Carmen Tarleton has turned it into a story of human graciousness and strength.

After 3 months in a medically induced coma, dozens of surgeries- including a full facial transplant – months of blindness due to burned corneas, and the kind of physical, emotional, and mental anguish that would destroy most of us, Carmen emerged from her tragedy with a renewed appreciation for the blessings that remain in her life.  A corneal transplant to her left eye restored limited vision to her. She gained strength and embarked on a new path.

But that’s not all that makes her remarkable.

Carmen Tarleton ultimately decided to forgive her estranged husband, and she began sharing her story to help others.

Carmen’s book tells the full story. In Episode #12 she shared this story with us.

Last week we learned some devastating news about Carmen.

A post on her Facebook page revealed the following:

  • On November 11, 2018, Carmen rapidly lost her eyesight. By the time she was in Boston later that morning, her sight was completely gone. Due to a massive infection, Carmen lost her synthetic cornea transplant, suffered damage to her retina, and is now completely blind.
  • Doctors have told her she will not have any sight for up to the next 6 months as her eye heals. They will then give her a new transplant and, hopefully, she will regain the sight she had before. Regaining her eyesight is not guaranteed, but it is a hope and a possibility.

Imagine this setback and what it means to Carmen. Emotionally, physically, and financially, this is a devastating event. We can’t help her restore her eyesight but we can help her maintain faith and alleviate her financial stress.

Carmen’s sister created a GOFUNDME page. She described Carmen’s current situation and invites us all to help in whatever way we can.

Carmen never achieved a financial fortune and was already working hard to make ends meet. Now she cannot work at all, and medical bills are mounting.

We can help. You can help.

Any amount- even a few dollars from many of us – will help Carmen Tarleton not only financially but emotionally, as she feels the support from strangers. To know people care and to feel that from us all will provide that surge of emotional strength that just may help her through one more day, week, month, or year.

Catch her full story in Episode 12.

Listen as she tells it in her own voice, and give back to the woman who has done her best to help others.
