Cherie B Mathews knows all about upheaval.
Her own life spun on that proverbial dime when she got the call telling her she had cancer. Fortunately, she’s an expert at turning the force of fear into excitement, and she used this skill to turn her own experience into an opportunity to help others.
This skill Cherie acquired from driving fast and taking chances in life has paid off repeatedly for her. From the moment she redesigned a stapler in 60 seconds to earn a job at IBM, to the time she created technology for NASA, Cherie has continually excelled at turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. Where others see “fine” she sees “could be better” and where others accept pain she erupts into action.
“Even if it appears not broken, how can you make an improvement?”
That’s the question Cherie approaches ordinary objects and situations with. She loves awakening that curiosity and excitement for innovation in the minds of others, almost as much as she loves disrupting the norm, herself.
Cherie’s innovative spirit instantly awakened after the major surgery she underwent to save her life. She’d already tapped into her own strength to research the disease threatening her life and determine the solution she wanted to apply. Her doctors opposed his path, and she’d been forced to advocate for something no one wants to do at all, but which she knew was right. Then she walked into another shocking struggle, when faced with powerful pain after surgery.
There was no clothing she could wear that did not feel like a further assault on her already abused nerve endings. There was no easy solution to the wearing the drains attached to tubes protruding from her body- so Cherie created one.
In this episode, Cherie shares her energy and excitement for life with us.
