Brandon Busch is known as "The Candy Man" to the Marines he serves with
Brandon Busch was an active duty Marine from 2004 – 2013, when he moved into the Reserves. With that move, Brandon was free to remain connected to service and pursue his other passion…chocolate.
Brandon wasn’t especially talented at working with chocolate at first. But just like he overcame a lack of natural talent at flying to become a helicopter pilot in the Marines, Brandon let his interest in chocolate fuel his drive to become an artist at his craft.
“Whenever you see someone take a bit,” says Brandon, “they light up.” Being a part of providing that happiness to his customers, in addition to the fascinating history of chocolate, is enough to keep Brandon hooked.
That’s a good thing for chocolate lovers because his company, Lift Chocolate, creates chocolates that may seem too pretty to eat, but taste too amazing not to eat.
In this episode, Brandon returns to American Snippets to share some more insight on what it takes to excel at something you are not naturally talented at, how to adapt a business to thrive beyond COVID, and how to lead through adversity.
Here are some of the things Brandon Busch talks about in this value packed interview:
The history of chocolate
How he ensures he works with ethical suppliers
What happened to his company when a bulk of his hotel orders stopped coming during COVID
What is more important to him than saving money on shipping
Preparing for sudden increase in demand
A unique challenge among chocolate companies
