This will warm your heart.
As part of ‘Salute Our Troops’ night, team honors family of 1st Lt. Louis Edwin Allen
A lot of special events took place across the National Hockey League this weekend to honor army veterans around America for Remembrance Day.
What the New York Rangers managed to do for the family of our co-founder Barb Allen made a direct impact on her, her boys, her late husband’s parents, siblings, and friends.
Barb’s husband, Lt. Louis Allen died in Iraq in June 2005. Their four boys were just 6,5,3 ,and 1 year old.
Folds Of Honor And The NY Rangers Honor Allen family
This past Monday, on the day following Veterans Day, the NY Rangers hosted Lt. Louis Allen’s family at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers offered a donation to Folds of Honor, to support its mission of providing college scholarships to children of fallen and disabled service members.

The team presented a $10,000 scholarship check to Folds of Honor during the game just moments after sharing a video tribute to Lt Louis Allen and describing the work of Folds of Honor.
Barb and three of her four boys stood near center ice, all wearing #18 Rangers jerseys with their last names on the back. The crowd responded with a standing ovation, moving us all with their support.
Barbara Allen and Tom O’Connor, president of the New York Chapter of Folds of Honor, joined John Giannone on MSG television during first intermission.
Barbara Allen spoke of her late husband’s extreme love of the Rangers.
“This would mean so much to him,” Barbara Allen said during the interview. “For the support and the fact that it’s the New York Rangers. He was the biggest Rangers fan ever.”
“Country, family, NY Rangers,” she joked.
As part of “Salute Our Troops” night, the Rangers also wore special jerseys during warmups.” The night, already amazing, was just a tad bit more so when the Rangers pulled off a win.
With this event on the heels of Veterans Day, we here at American Snippets want to extend our gratitude to all who honorably serve in our military.
Barb and the boys have been endlessly impacted by active duty and veteran service members who continue to support each other and families of the fallen, and we are all inspired by these actions.
How Do You Honor Military Our Families?
Give thanks by honoring their sacrifice through educating their legacy.
Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service-members. Their motto says it best: HONOR THEIR SACRIFICE. EDUCATE THEIR LEGACY.
