Trump Acquitted In Impeachment Trial…AGAIN!
President Trump has been acquitted- again- after Democrats attempted to convict him in an impeachment process unlike any in history.
The 57-43 vote to convict fell short of the ⅔ required. The vote was largely partisan, with only 7 Republicans voting to convit. Republican Sens. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania voted with Democrats.
Within moments of the acquittal, Senators returned to the spotlight to lament the “injustice” and continue to condemn President Trump for a host of alleged offenses. Republican Mitch McConnell, who voted to acquit Trump, was among the leaders of this pack, calling for criminal charges to be brought against the former president.
Even as Americans breathed a cautious sigh of relief, hoping that this would be the end of this particular course of divisiveness, the politicians signaled that is anything but the case.
Meantime, while the Senators continued to clamor for the spotlight, Trump released a statement expressing his satisfaction that “yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country” has come to a close.
Trump went on to promise that “Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun,” he continued. “In the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it!”
